Here's another story of a human being changed into a centaur. And despite the cover, he's a good guy!
The poor ancient Greeks. I'm sure if they knew how their stories and gods were corrupted today, they would have destroyed all evidence of them. Lucky for us, they didn't and occasionally their heroes and legends bring us enjoyment, this is one of those times.
This story takes place during WWII. The British are fighting in (guess where?) Greece against the mean old nazis. Major Brooke was a member of the British Calvary in WWI and still believes a man on a horse is the best way to fight. The Colonel is disgusted at Brooke's refusal to accept 'modern' warfare, calling him old fashioned.
Brooke and a scouting troup are sent around to try and cut off the nazis, but they are ambushed! All are killed, except for Brooke who gets wounded. He takes cover in (where else?) an ancient temple, and bemoans the fact that had his troops been mounted, they all would have survived. Turns out the temple is that of (who else?) Circe, who hears his admiration for his animal and..well, you can figure out what she does from the cover.
Not terrible art, and the story is predictable, but entertaining none the less.
