The origination of my name, and the basis for my appearance. Here are posted all of the pages of the Micronauts comic books which feature Prince Argon. Argon's story is a subplot in the Micronaut's story, but even so, is depicted in 49 pages within a series of 26 comic issues.
After killing the King and Queen of the Microverse, a subatomic universe enclosed in the atoms of our world, Prince Argon and his sister Princess Mari are pursued by the evil Baron Karza who is masterminding the coup and destruction of the royal family. Karza captures Prince Argon and his Horse Oberon, and transports them to the Body Banks. Using genetic grafting techniques, he fuses Argon's body to that of his horse's making him a centaur. 'Slug', a leader of the resistance, breaks into his cell in the body banks. She gasps at seeing the Prince in this form and asks, "Speak softly man, but speak the truth, are you Prince Argon, Force Commander of Homeworld whom I have come to rescue?" Of course, he is and, assisted by 'Slug' escapes the Body Banks to put on the armor of the 'Force Commander' to lead the resistance to victory. Due to the evil that the Body Banks represent, Argon refuses to have them reopened, even to return himself to human form.
Later, it is implied that 'Slug' who is not at all unattractive, is to become Argon's Queen. As Argon remains a centaur, and 'Slug' is a Human, she will be Queen in name only. (Unless she has something in common with Katherine the Great.)
Argon seems to settle down to life as a centaur with 'Slug', who retains her rebel nick name. As portrayed by several writers and artists, Argon's appearance, which is nicely portrayed in issue 4 (The scene in which his gives the, 'For you will find only Argon the Centaur' speech) to seemingly rough sketches after the 'Saga's End' issue featuring the fight with Karza who has the ability to transform into Centaur form. The quality of the art lessons for several issues after this one, and then increases in quality as Argon's transformation is shown to be more than just physical. Under the influence of Karza, he kidnaps 'Slug' to join the 'bad guys' in the desert, who then, in a wonderful revisionist history plot twist reveals that Karza's 'psychic energy' has been planted in Argon's Centaur form. Argon, as he is being 'sacrificed', seemingly joyfully to revive Karza, has a sudden flash of realization as he meets his doom, and renounces his actions.
There are 49 pages in this comic series which feature Prince Argon in centaur form. They are scanned at 150dpi and should be easy to read on a mainstream browser. They will, unless you are on a T1, ADSL, or ISDN line, take some time to load, but all told, this is the longest and most complete Centaur appearance I'm aware of, next to that of Timoth in the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons comic series. Enjoy!
