Centaursite.com - Piers Anthony's Xanth

A young centaur being shot with an arrow.

Piers Anthony's Xanth is a magical land full of magic, magical and mythological creatures, (including centaurs) and terrible puns.

The books feature a lot of giggly sexual innuendo, mythical beings, oh, and did I mention the bad puns>

Xanth has centaurs, the result, legend says, of early explorers and their horses drinking from a spring that flowed with 'love potient', resulting in, as is perfectly reasonable in a magical land, centaurs. Later centaurs and birds drank from the same spring resulting in winged centaurs. Who knows what else those love potient springs resulted in? I'm not sure I want to even think about it, but I'm sure it has some terrible puns associated with it.

Xanth, according to the maps of it in the books, looks an awful lot like the state of Florida. As author Anthony is reported to live in Tampa, Florida, the similarity isn't surprizing, it's almost a play on the outline of Florida, or a pun on it's shape. As you go north towards Georgia, the magic fades away.

Anyway, as centaurs are featured in this series of books, quite a few of them have centaurs on their covers. Here are all I can recall. If you know of ones I've missed, let me know. And don't send me any puns.

Centaur Aisle. The Color of her panties. Centaur Aisle.
The Quest for Magic A female centaur with a gun. The Source of Magic.
